Understanding Heroes
Heroes are one of the most important aspects of the game. Something players don't realize till it is too late often. They make HUGE impacts on construction time of AT's, buildings, research and troop training.
The most important thing though is getting the right hero to start with. You will only find the best heroes from level 1 Inns. Never will you find the good ones from anything higher. It's a complete waist of time to bother trying. Thus do the obvious thing, don't level up your Inn!
Hero Base Stat Equation:
Hero Attribute Score – Hero Level = Base Attribute Score
*Hero Attribute Score is the highest value of politics, attack or intelligence that the hero has.
Example:
Hero named “Fred” is level 18 and has 80 politics, 41 attack and 18 intelligence. Thus we would call him a politics hero because this is his highest stat. Using the equation we plug in the values:
80 – 18 = 62
From here we can see that his base politics attribute score is 62.
Why do we care about this? Simple, the higher the base attribute score is the faster your hero will gain levels and become stronger. In most cases you can not expect to see higher than a base 70 attribute score from a hero from the Inn however there have been examples of base attributes of over 70. Personally I have seen a base 77 hero from the Inn. These heroes are extremely rare to find. Generally if you find anything with a base of 66 or better at the start of the game when gold is very valuable we will keep the hero.
There is one other way to get a hero with a base attribute score of higher than 70 and that is by winning one of two rare items from the amulet roll. The items are “Holy Helm of Mars” and “Plate Helm of Lancelot”. If you get one of these items they are priceless. You can not even buy them with real money.
Keep browsing your inn over and over every hour or so checking for heroes till you have a number of good ones. Generally you need 3 attack heroes, 1 politics hero for every city and 1 intelligence hero. If you have gold to spare you might even buy a useless hero just to dismiss him and see who replaces him in the inn.
Sometimes you can get a higher base attribute score from your heroes by using a “Holy Water” item. When you pick up a hero from the Inn the level up points the hero has is randomly distributed to all his stats. The “Holy Water” item let's you redistribute those points where you think they should go best. Since the random assignment might be to the wrong stat you might be able to make small gains using a “Holy Water” item on a low level hero.
Example:
You just bought a level 3 hero from the Inn named “Lance” with the attributes: pol 12, atk 69, int 45. You did the calculation and find that his base attack attribute score is 66 as is but we know that it might actually be higher because the computer randomly assigned level up points to all the attributes, not just atk. Thus we decide to use a “Holy Water” item and reassign the level up points. After doing this we see that his actual base attribute scores are as follows: pol 10, atk 68, int 45 thus the computer had randomly assigned 2 level up points to politics and 1 to atk. We then reassign the 3 level up points to atk and end up with the ending stats of: pol 10, atk 71, int 45. As you can see we gained a small two point advantage by doing this.
Final points I want to make is that you should always use a politics hero for mayor. You occasionally switch your politics hero for an attack hero right before you Que your barracks with units and then switch back to your politics after you finished Queuing. You also do this with your intelligence hero for Queuing research in your academies.
To level up your best heroes send them out on your NPC City Farming attacks. It's the quickest way to gain levels.
